Increasing share values and major variations in herd feeding regimes are major issues in the current valuing of dairy farms. The value of dairy farms has been declining with the lower payout and the serious drought in early 2013 will also affect values in the short term. The outlook is obviously better with improving returns in the Fonterra product auctions with some substantial lifts in prices in recent months.
There have been a number of dairy farm sales in Autumn 2013 which are helping to establish farm values leading into the Spring.
